Will Tories probe RBC rejection of applicant over political views?
Open letter to Finance Critic Pierre Poilievre
Dear Mr. Poilievre,
As host of Sauga960’s The Marc Patrone Show, I interviewed Ezra Levant this week regarding his mortgage application with RBC.
He has produced audiotaped evidence the bank is engaging in practices that discriminate against prominent conservative voices and that his political views contributed directly to the rejection of his application.
The implications of this are troubling for obvious reasons, not only for those of us who hold similar views, but for anyone concerned our financial institutions are engaging in practices that penalize Canadians based on their free expression rights to engage in public discourse, political or otherwise
As you know, banks in Canada are regulated. The Financial Consumer Agency of Canada is supposed to make sure these institutions comply with consumer protection measures.
What if these institutions have become so politicized Canadians are being discriminated against without their knowing it?
Whether you like Ezra’s content or not, surely this bears further scrutiny? In our interview, I expressed my hopes our opposition party in Ottawa might raise the issue with the minister of Finance.
Will you consider discussing this matter with me on my show?
Kind Regards,
Marc Patrone
